On April 28th 1983, I was born at Christiana Hospital in Wilmington, Delaware to a phD candidate and his wife attending University Delaware. Without tell-tale signs of difficult pregnancy or difficult birth process my birth turned into a huge news in town. As soon as my mother had two second chance to say hello I was incubated and transported to St. Christopher Hospital for Children in Philadelphia. A rare birth sternum defect… they said…
Every year on my birthday, I have different dramatic images of how my birth would have been like. The star was born on this day! Or the hero was born on this day! Better yet, the great ruler was born on this day! The truth is it was terrifyingly usual day for my parents and doctors. There was nothing fancy or glamorous about my birth foreshadowed something dramatically wonderful. No matter how I recreate the story and fancy up my birth, it is never enough to get over the feeling that I rather wanted it to be ordinary and normal.
It is like being a child star, being forgotten later, or feeling like you have to live up to the fame and carry the attention everywhere you go.
