Discovering myself has never stopped evolving in different ways. My face has been a big part of my identity. As I constantly search for my identity in many different directions, I have wondered if I might be trapping myself behind my face. As I point out that it is the other people that define me with my face and yet, at the end of the day, I am the one that safely stays behind my face. The face has created my life stories, perspectives, and even emotions.

Although I have shouted to the world that I would not like to be judged by the cover, it is certainly easier to stand behind that cover. It is absolutely frightening thing to see myself beyond what I have been comfortable for nearly 30 years. Perhaps I am luckier one than any other people in the world for having something special to base my stories.

My mother once said during our heated conversation, that she cannot talk about her life without talking about me. She also stayed behind my face and my life because it was more comfortable to have something else defining her life than to discover her own piece of her.

I met so many new people today at my friend’s housewarming party. As I was introducing myself and this website to many people it makes me reflect and discover my own perspectives on myself.  My discovery today is that we all have a huge homework for ourselves to constantly discover who we are and also introduce ourselves that new discovered part of us. The process takes a bit of time to adjust. However, it is most valuable time for ourselves. Accepting the ways things are with ourselves is such an amazing process. It is so tough and rough at times but it is a beautiful journey that we owe to ourselves.

I found a little freckle that started on the side of my face, today. Would that be part of my story today or rest of my life? The glow I had while having to meet new people…Would that be one?  What have you discover about yourself or even just your face? I think it’s nice to give little attention to other parts of ourselves each day. The parts that may have been upstaged by the birthmark or other scars from the craniofacial conditions that dominated our lives.

What’s  your discovery beyond your face, today? If you are parents or family members, what’s your discovery beyond your kids’ conditions about yourself?

I love reading your blog (I discovered it on the Hemangioma (Strawberry Birthmark) Facebook page). My daughter is almost 2 and has a hemangioma on her lower lip. I hope that she is as lovely and brave as you one day. I am very uptight and she has the most carefree personality. During her two short years, she had one surgery and was on medication for a very long time. I have learned that if she can be so brave and carefree through all of that, I can too! I want to be more like her every single day. Thank you for sharing your story here. You are a great role model for little girls like my daughter. And you give me so much hope for what the future holds for her.
